Background:In recent policy statements e.g. "The Government's Vision for New Priorities in Danish Development Assistance" (June 2003), it is noted that a direct link should exist between Danish development assistance and MDGs and PRSPs. The demand for alignment of Danish development assistance with the internationally accepted development goals and targets has emerged over the past few years and represents the Danish response to a renewal of a compact (i.e. MDG) between rich and poor countries. It also coincides with a focus on more efficient and effective administration of Danish development assistance through transfer of tasks and responsibilities to Danish representations in programme countries. The result is sharpening of the focus of Danish development assistance by bringing it closer to the partners and through increased donor collaboration and the usage of new aid instruments.
