E-BOOK ON INFORMAL JUSTICE AND SECURITY
The book; ‘Perspectives on Involving Non-State and Customary Actors in Justice and Security’ is a compilation of papers presented at a conference entitled “Access to Justice and Security: Non-state actors and the local dynamics of ordering” which was held in Copenhagen 1-3 November 2010.
The conference was organized by the Danish Institute for International Studies (DIIS). It was supported financially by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark and the International Development Law Organization (IDLO).
The recognition that the informal actors’ play a crucial role has been growing over the past decade, however, most programmes predominantly invest in the formal justice and security systems based on a western state-centric model of law and organisational structures.
The book highlights the need for in-depth knowledge of the dynamics and empirical evidence, context sensitive programming and to recognise the political dimension of the justice and security provision where competition for power is an important aspect.
Themes such as gender, experiences from programme implementation and context analysis are described in the book, which also bring cases from diverse countries such as Ghana, Indonesia, Nepal, Afghanistan and Pakistan.
