These pages covers Danida's support to development of the transport sector in partner countries, currently comprising Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia, Benin, Ghana and Nicaragua.Transport sector support is planned according to sector reforms and national strategies in the respective countries, and targets public as well as private institutions. Danida's support to the transport sector is generally focused on building coherent and sustainable road networks, consisting of community roads, regional roads and main roads, which can meet the diverse needs of the societies and target the reduction of poverty, which is often predominant in the rural areas. Crosscutting issues such as good governance, human rights, environmental protection and gender are mainstreamed into the programmes. Institutional support is provided to help partner countries to implement reform changes required to move towards basket funding and eventually budget sector support.
