(5) Discussion
Danida is supporting the Regional Environment Programme in Central America (called PREMACA from its name in Spanish) with DKK 250 million over seven years from 2005 to 2012. The Programme was designed to support the Regional Environment Plan for Central America (PARCA). The support is demonstrating interesting results, in particular in working with the private sector and civil society, including indigenous communities. Four urban municipalities and networks of slum dwellers, in many cases led by women are actively engaged in efforts to improve livelihoods. The themes selected for this seminar reflect the actuality of the PREMACA approach – Climate change, gender equality, indigenous peoples’ rights and the vital role of the private sector.
